Why We Made Our Baby Sleep Tracker Free (And What It Actually Does)

A baby in a crib with a night light projecting colorful stars on the wall.

If you've looked for a baby sleep tracker recently, you've probably noticed something: most of the good ones cost money. Some charge monthly. Some hide the useful features behind a paywall. A few charge for something as basic as logging when your baby fell asleep.

We think that's wrong.

Sleep is not a premium feature. Knowing how long your baby slept — and whether that's normal for their age — is something every parent deserves. So in Momena, the sleep tracker is completely free. No subscription required.

But we didn't just make it free. We made it good.

The Sleep Clock

The centerpiece of Momena's sleep tracker is a circular clock that shows your child's full sleep window at a glance. You set the expected sleep start and wake time, and the arc fills in as the night progresses. It's a visual way to see not just duration, but pattern — whether sleep is shifting earlier, later, or fragmenting across days.

Dynamic Island & Live Activity

For parents with iPhone 14 Pro and later, Momena supports Dynamic Island. Start the sleep timer, lock your phone, and the duration stays visible at the top of your screen — without unlocking. Check the time, see the sleep duration. That's it.

For older iPhones (iOS 16.1+), Live Activity on the Lock Screen works the same way. The timer runs in the background, the duration shows on your lock screen.

This matters at 3 AM when you're half asleep and just want to know if it's been two hours or four.

Multiple Children

If you have more than one child, you can switch between profiles instantly. Each child has their own sleep history, their own charts, their own patterns.

One note: adding multiple children requires Momena Plus, our optional subscription. But the sleep tracker itself — the timer, the Live Activity, the charts — works fully for one child for free.

What gets logged

Every sleep session records:

  • Start and end time
  • Total duration
  • Notes (optional)

Over time, you build a picture of your child's sleep evolution. The newborn chaos of 45-minute cycles. The gradual consolidation into longer stretches. The moment the daytime nap finally disappears for good.

These are things worth remembering — not just for peace of mind now, but for the pediatrician visit when they ask "how has sleep been lately?"

Your data stays on your device

Like everything in Momena, sleep data is stored locally on your device. Encrypted. Not uploaded to any server. Not analyzed by us. Not shared with anyone.

If you want a backup, iCloud Backup (available with Momena Plus) stores an encrypted copy in your own iCloud account — not ours.
